Can I lose a professional license over a DUI?

It depends heavily on the profession and the licensing board. Healthcare, law, education, aviation, commercial driving, insurance, real estate, and any field with a fitness or character requirement all have exposure. Many others have none.

The point most professionals miss: the reporting obligation often attaches to arrest or charge, not to conviction, and often has its own short deadline. Failing to report can become a more serious problem with the board than the underlying DUI, because it goes to candor rather than to conduct.

Some boards initiate their own proceedings independent of the criminal case, with different standards and different timelines. A criminal case that resolves favorably doesn't automatically end a board matter.

If you hold any professional license, that fact needs to be on the table at the first meeting with counsel, because it changes what a good resolution looks like.
